Science Holiday Club at Winchester Science Centre during May holidays
We have decided not to run holiday camps in the May half term in Oxfordshire as many of our staff are on annual leave and need the break before the summer!

Some of our team will be running our long-standing holiday club at Winchester Science Centre in Hampshire during the May half term if travelling there is an option for you?

Otherwise we will be back at our usual venues for the summer holiday camps and theses bookings will be published soon. If you’d like to stay up to date, we would recommend following us on our facebook page

Holiday Camp FAQs

Is the holiday camp suitable for my child?
Bright Sparks Events science holiday activities are designed to entertain primary school children
aged 5 to 11 years during the school holidays. We provide a safe environment for practical investigations, so children can come along and experiment for themselves, take part in our science challenges and investigate how things work. We don’t split the children into age specific groups as this can be unsettling for siblings. Instead we let the children choose their friendship groups for the day and adjust the activities accordingly to the children’s age. Whenever possible, we will add challenges in for older children and assist younger children, so that everybody completes activities appropriate for their age. However, please be aware that your children’s maturity and level of experience may have an impact on their day.

What should my child wear?
Children should wear comfortable clothes – not their best outfit please, as we plan to keep them busy and active! An apron or old shirt for messy chemistry activities is handy. If the venue has access to outdoor space (i.e. a playground), your child may want to go out to play during break times so please bring suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather. This may include, but is not limited to a waterproof coat and woollies or sun cream and a hat.

What should my child bring?
Children should bring a healthy, balanced packed lunch and drink suitable for an active day, plus any snacks for break times. Squash is provided for the morning and afternoon breaks, and water is available throughout the day.
If your child has any special dietary needs or severe food allergies, please make sure you let us know when you complete the booking form and provide any medical equipment necessary to treat them if accidental food contamination was to occur. The more information we have, the better prepared we are to care for your child in an emergency.

Will my child get a break?
Yes. Our timetable is similar to a school day, providing a 20 minute morning break and an hour for lunch. The first half of the lunch hour is an activity free zone to encourage children to eat all their lunch. After this there is time for free play.

Sibling Discount
A reduced price for additional children in the same family is available and you will save 10% for each additional sibling.

Childcare Vouchers
As we are an activity provider offering specific tuition to help children improve their scientific skills, we are exempt from being Ofsted registered and are therefore unfortunately unable to accept childcare vouchers.

Terms and Conditions

Why is there no holiday camp in my area?
Bright Sparks Science is currently making contacts in the local area and across Oxfordshire to see where our services are required. We have only booked in science camps in locations where an interest for the activities has been expressed.

How do I set up a science camp in my area?
If you would like Bright Sparks Events to organise a science camp in your area please get in touch. Holiday camps can be held at a local village hall, community centre or school, so if you know of a good venue, then please let us know. These venues often charge for hiring the premises and usually require a deposit when booking. So if you did want a holiday camp to run in your area we would need a minimum of 15 children expressing an interest to ensure it is a success.

.
If you would just like some help entertaining your children and their friends at home during the holidays, then we can provide science activities on smaller scale. Please contact us to discuss what options are available

How Holiday Camps will run with Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are confident we can adapt the stimulating, fun-filled activities we normally offer, whilst observing safe practices and providing your children with an unforgettable, positive experience. We are confident we can adapt the stimulating, fun-filled activities we normally offer, whilst observing safe practices and providing your children with an unforgettable, positive experience.

Our camps will not only help take some the pressure off parents/carers during the summer holidays but they’ll also help to enable your children to build their confidence, self-esteem and make new friends.

We will be adhering to the current government guidelines regarding holiday camps, details of which can be found here. Our full updated policies and procedures in light of the Covid-19 pandemic can be found here.

This includes some of the following changes;

  • A new contactless drop off, registration and collection procedure
  • We will operate a reduced size camp to a maximum of 15 children and will require registration for all three days of the camp. This is so the children can remain in the same groups throughout our holiday camp.
  • Children will be asked to wash hands on arrival and at collection time and at regular intervals during their day.
  • The existing summer activities timetable has been altered to ensure social distancing can be followed by children and camp instructors.
  • Additional cleaning and handwashing will take place before and after snack times and lunch breaks to ensure areas are disinfected.
  • Staff training days with the whole team to ensure complete understanding of new policies and procedures for all camps.
  • Updates to our illness and absence policy
  • All parents will be asked to confirm they have read and agree to our new Covid-19 policy which can be found on the website at the time of booking. All our policies and procedures are subject to change as the government releases further information.
